found in between two stakes moved some weeds

The landowner had just weedwacked the area so the benchmark was easy to find, right where I thought it would be. There are 2 stakes on either side of it plus surveyors tape.

I've tried twice now to find this Benchmark. I found the 2 stakes and looked on the rock between them. They have become very overgrown and covered with tall, fallen grass, moss, and road sand (from winter). I dig around for several minutes but did not find it. I may try to ask the property owners if I can look for it and possibly clear the area.

Got this on my way back to Bar Harbor from Catilac Mountain. Will post photo later.

This was straight forward. I used another cachers coordinates and they lead me right to the benchmark.

Time on site: 0815 hrs.

While vacationing on M.D.I. I decided to search for a few local benchmarks. I drove out along Route 233 from Bar Harbor and easily found the mark using the historical description. At the station my Garmin GPSmap76 receiver indicated approximately 90 feet from the posted coordinates. The disc is quite visible and is in excellent condition. ~Rich in NEPA~

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
