No telephone poles with the right numbers on them in the area, and no sign of a benchmark at the described location. Did find a surveyer's stake with orange tape nearby; this (and others nearby) have been recently placed. This may be another case where the relocate road has paved over the benchmark.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1962 3.8 MI SW FROM SOMESVILLE. 3.8 MILES SOUTHWEST ON STATE HIGHWAY 102 FROM THE GRADE SCHOOL AT SOMESVILLE. 0.4 MILE NORTH OF ROAD LEADING TO PRETTY MARSH, 63 FEET NORTH OF POWER LINE POLE NO. 602-10, 24 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF HIGHWAY 102 AND 1 FOOT ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE HIGHWAY. SET IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE TOP AND AT THE SOUTHWEST END OF AN EXPOSED BEDROCK PROJECTING 6 INCHES.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
