DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1865 (GAF) ON THE N SIDE OF THE HILL ON INDIAN POINT, W SIDE OF MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, ABOUT 1-3/4 MILES W BY S FROM TOWN HILL. THE STATION IS ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM THE END OF THE POINT, 1/8 MILE FROM THE SHORE OF CLARKS OR NORTHWEST COVE, AND 1/2 MILE N OF THE W SHORE ROAD. RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (KGC) ON THE NW SIDE OF MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, ON INDIAN POINT ON WESTERN BAY, ABOUT 1/4 MILE W OF NORTHWEST COVE AND ABOUT 1/2 MILE S OF THE N TIP OF THE POINT. THE STATION, IS IN A SMALL OUTCROPPING LEDGE, SURROUNDED BY TREES ABOUT 50 FEET HIGH. AN OLD RAIL FENCE RUNS PARALLEL TO THE ROAD ON THE E SIDE AND A TRIANGULAR BLAZE WAS CUT IN A TREE IN THE FENCE LINE OPPOSITE THE STATION. THE STATION IS 36 FEET E OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD. R.M. NO. 1, A STANDARD BRONZE DISK WEDGED IN A BOULDER 2 FEET HIGH AND 57 FEET E OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD OPPOSITE THE TRIANGULAR BLAZE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, A STANDARD BRONZE DISK SET IN CONCRETE AS DESCRIBED IN NOTE 11A, IS JUST E OF THE FENCE LINE AND 40 FEET N OF THE BLAZE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM ELLSWORTH, GO S ON HIGHWAY 3 TO THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 198. FROM HERE CONTINUE S 2 MILES ON HIGHWAY 198 AND THEN TURN RIGHT ON SURFACED ROAD AT SIGN INDIAN POINT, FOLLOW 1.6 MILES AND TAKE RIGHT FORK.
