Documented History (by the NGS)

1/1/1870 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1870 (GAF) ON A BARE KNOLL ON THE W SIDE OF SOMES SOUND NEAR ITS HEAD AND ABOUT 3/4 MILE S BY E FROM MOUNT DESERT VILLAGE AND 3/8 MILE S OF MASON POINT. THE LAND BELONGS TO J. PARKER, WHOSE HOUSE IS NW OF THE STATION. THE STATION IS A COPPER BOLT SET IN A HOLE IN A ROCK, ON A SMALL EXPOSED PART OF THE ROCK, WHICH IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE SURROUNDING GRASS AROUND.
1/1/1934 by CGS (SEE DESCRIPTION)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (KGC) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED. IT IS ON MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, ON THE W SIDE OF SOMES SOUND NEAR ITS HEAD AND ABOUT 3/8 MILE S OF MASON POINT. THE STATION WAS MARKED WHEN RECOVERED, BY A COPPER BOLT SET IN A HOLE IN A ROCK, AND THE BOLT WAS IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE THAT IT WAS LEFT INTACT. TWO REFERENCE MARKS, STANDARD BRONZE DISKS WEDGED IN DRILL HOLES IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK, WERE ESTABLISHED. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS N BY W OF THE STATION AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS E OF THE STATION. THERE IS A HUGE BOULDER 2 METERS S OF THE STATION. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 198 AND HIGHWAY 102 IN SOMESVILLE, GO S ON HIGHWAY 102, 1.3 MILES. TURN LEFT ONTO A T-ROAD AND FOLLOW THIS ROAD 0.4 MILE TO A HOUSE ON THE LEFT. WALK ESE THRU THE FIELD TO THE CORNER OF THE WOODS WHERE THERE IS A TRIANGLE BLAZED ON A 14-INCH PINE. FOLLOW A DIM TRAIL 250 FEET E TO THE POINT WHERE IT FORKS. THE STATION IS ON A SMALL KNOLL ABOUT 100 FEET S OF THIS FORK.
1/1/1941 by CGS (SEE DESCRIPTION)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1941 (FLP) STATION IS 1-1/2 MILES E OF THE TOWN OF YARMOUTH ON THE S BANK OF ROYAL RIVER, ON A GRASSY POINT WHICH IS THE NORTHERLY TIP OF PARKER POINT, AT THE FOOT OF A 10-FOOT BLUFF.
