Yep, the benchmark is no longer here. The courthouse has undergone renovations and the building and wall are no longer in the same configuration as 2006.

Interesting. MnDOT marks this one as destroyed, but it looks like previous cachers definitely found it. (NGS doesn't seem to know.) Either it was destroyed in the last five years, or MnDOT is wrong. ftp://ftp.olmweb.dot.state.mn.us/Geod/PDF%20Single%20Sheet/GSID_30160.pdf

Found it with my dad

Found as described, writing very difficult to read. My son Velociraptor was the first to find this.

Found today as described.

Station found today, with a little walking. The datasheet coordinates put me on the wrong side of the street at the wrong building - the coordinates I'm submitting will put you on Holmes Street in front of the stairs leading up to the Scott County Courthouse entrance.

If you walk up the stairs and bear right, the station is behind a concrete 'wall' to the left of the door. My GPS signal was really weak up there, that's why I logged it at the base of the stairs.

Take a look at the enclosed pictures, they will lead you to the station. The disk appears to have been tampered with and is heavily scratched - the original 792 desgination is still visible, but the 1903 monumented date is all but obscured...not too bad for a disk over 100 years old!

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
