Found but not as described. It appears the entire description had the wrong view of N. Hwy 58 runs WSW to ENE in front of the school. So from what I saw and and a satellite image the description should read: "41.0 feet NNW of...centerline of highway 58, 94.3 feet West of highway 58 mile post number 17, ... 99 feet ENE of SE corner of an empty brick school house, 29.3 feet WSW of corner fence post..." Basically, if you park parallel to the highway in the corner of the parking lot near the highway with your back to the parking lot enterence you will be facing ENE. The witnest post will directly in front of you, hidden by trees.

Good news is the tree that was encroaching on the mark has been cut down. As a result there is a scare in the surface of the disk where the chainsaw nicked it.

Found as described with both my kids. Mark is still visible but the tree next to it will at some point cover it in a number of years into the future.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1995.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
