Found while staying at nearby lookout tower. :o)

We got a great look at this, both inside and out (we rented it for the weekend). Highly recommended! We also saw the benchmark disk app. 25-30 feet from the geocache, south of the lookout.

Found on trip up here last year during o/n stay and forgot to log =/

I do not see how a benchmark can get so beat up just setting on top of a mountain.

very cool!extra credit on the cache find!lovely views and the renovations are coming along very nicely!!!

CFM gave me this present on the way back from stashing her newest cache. Hopefully this cache will encourage others to log this BM too!

The lookout is currently being renovated for RENTAL.

DESCRIBED BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1955 LOCATED ABOUT 6 MI NNE. OF DETROIT, 2.3 MI SE. OF ELK LAKE. ON HIGHEST POINT OF GOLD BUTTE. TO REACH FROM DETROIT, DRIVE 4.1 MI NE. ON BREITENBUSH RD. TO RD. FORKS. TAKE LEFT FORK 5 MI TO RD. FORKS IN SADDLE. TAKE RIGHT FORK 1.8 MI TO END OF RD. HIKE WESTERLY ON TRAIL TO HIGHEST POINT AND STATION. A 5-MINUTE HIKE. STATION MARK--CENTER OF USFS LOH.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
