DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1966 (CAA) STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 16 MILES NORTH-NORTHWEST OF NEW MEADOWS, 9 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF POLLOCK AND IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF POLLOCK MOUNTAIN. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN NEW MEADOWS, GO N ONE BLOCK TO U.S. HIGHWAY 95, TURN RIGHT AND GO ON HIGHWAY 95 FOR 11.70 MILES TO A STEEL BRIDGE OVER LITTLE SALMON RIVER. IMMEDIATELY AFTER CROSSING BRIDGE, TURN SHARP LEFT AND GO ON DIRT ROAD FOR 2.1 MILES TO A FORK IN THE ROAD, TAKE THE RIGHT FORK FOR 0.4 MILE TO ANOTHER FORK, KEEP TO THE RIGHT FORK AND GO 4 MILES TO THE ENTRANCE TO SMOKEY CAMP GROUNDS. CONTINUE ON ROAD FOR 0.25 MILE TO END OF TRUCK TRAVEL AND ALSO END OF ROAD. PASS THROUGH THE WIRE GATE AND TAKE THE TRAIL NW AS PER SIGN POLLOCK MT. 5 AND GO ABOUT 4 MILES TO CROSS TRAILS IN THE SADDLE AT THE TOP OF THE DIVIDE, KEEP RIGHT AS PER SIGN POLLOCK MT. L.O. AND GO NE ON TRAIL FOR ABOUT 1 MILE TO LOOKOUT HOUSE AND STATION. WATER IS TO BE HAD SHORTLY BEFORE REACHING THE DIVIDE. STATION IS A 16 X 16 FOOT SQUARE, METAL BUILDING, 8 FEET HIGH AND IS PAINTED WHITE. THE POINT INTERSECTED WAS THE LIGHTNING ROD LOCATED IN THE TOP CENTER OF THE ROOF OF THE LOOKOUT.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
