found with Queens Blessing. Easy to locate they are on the East and West ends of the South side of the Bridge. ORNITH

Found the two benchmark disks on either end of the bridge spanning Spanish Creek. They are in good shape.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1968 4.8 MI SW FROM RUFUS. 4.8 MILES SOUTHWEST ALONG FORMER U.S. HIGHWAY 30 FROM THE POST OFFICE AT RUFUS, AT BIGGS JUNCTION, IN R16E T2N, SECTION 9, IN THE TOP AND 1.0 FOOT SOUTHWEST OF THE NORTHEAST END OF THE SOUTHEAST CONCRETE SIDEWALK OF A CONCRETE BRIDGE OVER SPANISH CREEK, 22 1/2 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 0.6 FOOT NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST END OF A GUARDRAIL, 1.5 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE SIDEWALK, AND ABOUT 1 FOOT HIGHER THAN THE HIGHWAY.

THE MARK IS 0.3 M ABOVE THE ROAD.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
