DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1946 STATION GREY BACK IS LOCATED ON THE HIGHEST PART OF A PROMINENT BALD MOUNTAIN THAT IS ON THE SOUTHERN BOUNDARY OF THE YAKIMA INDIAN RESERVATION, ABOUT 17 MILES NORTHEAST OF GOLDENDALE AND 11 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF GLENWOOD. STATION IS REACHED AS FOLLOWS--FROM GLENWOOD GO EAST, ON PAVED ROAD, 0.7 MILES TO FORK. TAKE LEFT FORK, GRAVEL ROAD, AND GO EAST 4.0 MILES TO RAILROAD TRACKS. CROSS TRACKS AND CONTINUE EAST 13.8 MILES TO CATTLE GUARD ON THE NORTH SIDE OF ROAD, JUST AFTER REACHING TOP OF CANYON. TURN LEFT (NORTH) THROUGH CATTLE GUARD AND GO 3.1 MILES TO CABIN. CONTINUE NORTH 3.4 MILES TO THE HIGHEST PART OF MOUNTAIN AND STATION. STATION, STAMPED GREY BACK 1946 IS A STANDARD USC AND GS BRONZE DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK THAT PROJECTS ABOUT 2 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND. IT IS 15.0 FEET SOUTH OF THE EDGE OF CLIFF AND 10.12 METERS EAST OF THE CENTER OF LOOKOUT HOUSE.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
