During beautiful sunny September 2014 we went to visit the five states of the U.S. We passed a lot of interesting and awesome places in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Everywhere was very nicely, the weather was perfect, the countries were beautiful, the people were pleasant and we obtained the very nice experiences. But we didn't have so much time as we wanted so we'll have to come again (and then again). We want to visit another places which we didn't see yet. Thanks for all the benchmarks which we had the pleasure to see during our long trip.

Found while out caching in the gorge.

We had an unplanned stop here on the way back from 4th Anuual Columbia Gorge Geocaching Picnic. I didn't have the cache sheet for Broughton’s Expedition cache, so I didn't know about the offset.

I at least found this Benchmark and took pictures. It is interesting. I've never seen a Benchmark sticking up out of the ground like this one does. The ones in the past I have seen are in the ground.

N 45° 32.565 W 122° 16.526

didn't find the cache but three benchmarks will do.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
