Just like the others on the page.

I work right across the street so I got this one before work this very cold morning. it's interesting as my GPS wanted me in the middle of 2nd street but knew that wasn't right.

I came by after dark to look for this one. It was fun for two reasons: it's only about 3 minutes from my house, and I've never before seen one that wasn't flat on the ground.

Recovered in good condition with the following changes/additions to the 2004 description:

  • The mark is 9.7 feet south of the center of the southernmost of the three double door entrances.

  • The mark is 1.8 feet above the concrete floor level leading into the double doors. The mark is 2.7 feet above the top of the bottom step. The mark is 3.1 feet above the bottom of the bottom step.

(Our Garmin nuvi 760 GPS gave the location of the disk as: N 45° 31.394 W 122° 59.317 (“with 21 Foot Accuracy”).)

Still there, too bad it wasn't a Farmer's Market day.

Found it as described and in good condition. The giant sequoias out front are worth the visit.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

Only had time to find 2 of the 3 benchmarks needed for XYZ.

Just hope that I don't lose the information that I gleened.

Found this benchmark last year prior to the geocaching.com benchmark database. Used this as a waypoint in my XYZ/NGS cache. Set vertically in the East wall of the Washington County Courthouse. Just south of the southern most column.

Thanks for the hints. Easy find.

My second find in the XYZ/NGS trilogy. Am going to have to wait to tomorrow to find the Y 95 benchmark, as it's getting late...

Shadow2718

First attempt at finding a benchmark. Had the NGS data sheet with the coordinates with me, but could find it my first try. That's when I found out on the 2nd page (that I had left a home) was the description of the location itself. That was a bonehead move?

Found it! Third clue for XYZ/NGS Cache.

Easy Find. Eureka!

I also found it while looking for geocache XYZ/NGS by Makaio.

Found this while working Makaio's wonderful XYZ/NGS cache. This is the cache which introduced most of the local geocachers to bench mark hunting (before it became a geocaching category). The entire cache was a delight on several levels. Thanks, Makaio, for another terrific contribution to the community! . . . . patrick & shirley

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
