There's no "22" on this anymore, but it's definitely still there.

The paint on the mark and the sidewalk have been removed. "22" is not visible on the mark. The mark is easy to find.

For some reason, the first description of this benchmark's location doesn't match the second description (in the documented history). If you follow the second description, it's easy to find.

Also, probably due to the white paint which covers it, there is no evidence of a "22" stamped directly on the disk. To make up for the loss of the usual marking, a "22" was both penciled on the benchmark and painted (in black) near the benchmark.

Found the survey disk at the former intersection of W. 2nd and Columbia Streets in the curb. The survey disk was painted white so the lettering didn't stand out. Rubbed some dirt on the survey disk in order to photograph it clearly.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code D indicates a distribution rate of 3.1 thru 4.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
