Recovered in good condition. Our Garmin nuvi 760 GPS reported the coordinates as: N 45° 35.513 W 123° 31.048 (with “24 Foot Accuracy”).

We found the mark 39 feet south of the painted centerline of the Wilson River highway, 67.8 feet west-southwest of the northernmost of 2 metal gate posts, and 1 foot west of a metal witness post with a white sign. The disk is set in the top of a concrete monument that is 0.33 feet below the level of the ground.
The disk is 11 feet south-southwest of a wooden guardrail post (the easternmost post for that railing).

It is no longer clear exactly where the track road in the 1962 description enters the highway.

The witness post is on the left side of the photo. The disk is down in the hole indicated by the yellow arrow.

The yellow arrow indicates the location of the disk (although the disk itself can’t be seen). The white arrow indicates the metal gate post referenced in our description.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
