Recovered in good condition exactly as described in the 1962 description (except that we recorded the mileage from the highway 101 & highway 6 intersection as 5.5 miles).

Our Garmin nuvi 760 GPS gave the location of Z 24 as: N 45° 28.331 W 123° 44.159 (with “15 foot accuracy”).

Additional description notes:
The mark is 20 feet approximately north of the painted centerline of the highway (measured perpendicular from the road).
The mark is 13.6 feet south of a Tillamook P.U.D. utility pole labeled “243601”.
The mark is 5 feet west of a small narrow green metal ODOT bridge sign for this “Wilson River Mills” bridge.
The disk is approximately level with the surface of the road.

In the lower right of the photo, the mark is indicated by the yellow arrow. The green metal ODOT sign is on the left side of the photo.

The white arrow points to the general location of the mark – the mark is behind and below the grass and can not be seen. The utility pole is on the right of the photo. The green metal ODOT sign is near where the guardrail meets the concrete post at the end of the bridge.

On the way to Bayocean, stopped here to catch this and RD1106.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
