Recovered RM3 in good condition per the box score and the 1987 description with one change and one addition.

  • The mark is 11 inches east from an orange Carsonite witness post.
  • The mark is 61 feet west-southwest (measured along the road) from the northwest post of a yellow warning sign that mentions: “For your safety be aware of ocean shore hazards”.

(Our Garmin nuvi 760 GPSr gave the location of this mark as: N 45° 34.246 W 123° 57.170 (with “16 Foot Accuracy”) ).

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1987 19.8 KM (12.30 MI) NORTH FROM TILLAMOOK. 18.8 KM (11.70 MI) NORTHERLY ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 101 FROM ITS JUNCTION WITH STATE HIGHWAY 6 IN TILLAMOOK, THENCE 0.2 KM (0.10 MI) SOUTHWESTERLY ALONG CEDAR AVENUE IN THE VILLAGE OF BARVIEW, THENCE 0.8 KM (0.50 MI) WESTERLY ALONG A PAVED ROAD IN THE BARVIEW JETTY COUNTY PARK, 0.3 KM (0.20 MI) EAST OF A LOOKOUT TOWER, 30.5 M (100.1 FT) NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF THE PAVED ROAD, 18.0 M (59.1 FT) NORTHEAST OF TRIANGULATION STATION BARVIEW, AND 7.3 M (24.0 FT) SOUTHEAST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD. THE MARK IS 0.6 METERS SE FROM A WITNESS POST THE MARK IS 0.3 M ABOVE THE ROAD.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
