Found this one while on our way to Spokane, WA, after spending the week at the Oregon coast.

Checking out Crown Point today with 3MudDogs and some friends on our way to Multnomah Falls. I had to pull up my app on my phone and look for nearby benchmarks - score! Found this one pretty easily.

Heading for Seaside for a women’s conference however we started early so we could take the Old Historic Columbia Hwy and see all the water falls along the way.

Didn't think I'd have time to look for this one on the guided tour we were we giving to visitors from Ohio. And the I just stumbled on it!

Wulffy spotted this one as we were driving away. I didn't even see it until he pointed it out!! :)

I actually found this before I had my GPS. The building was closed so I only found this one.

DESCRIBED BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1938 (WMS) STATION IS A U.S.G.S. BENCH MARK AT CROWN POINT. AN ALUMINUM U.S.G.S. BENCH MARK TABLET SET IN THE CENTER OF THE SCROLL-LIKE END OF THE CONCRETE RAIL ALONG THE WALK BORDERING THE HIGHWAY AT THE W END OF THE SAID RAIL AND ABOUT 2-1/2 FEET ABOVE THE WALK.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1951 (ANS) THE PREVIOUS DESCRIPTIONS ARE ENTIRELY CORRECT AND ADEQUATE. THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1991.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
