This was a nice find. I wondered if this one would be here actaully, as I usually find TRI stations on the USGS maps I have on the computer at home. This one wasn't there on the 1986 USGS quad.

It wasn't a bad walk in, as I could drive to within 300 feet of the station. When I got to the location, I not only found the mark, the wooden witness post and both RMs, but for the first time ever, I also found the wooden remains of a tower. Pretty cool.

This is a little wider shot of the mark. Another first here...there is a nail in the top of the concrete. Probably unremarkable, but interesting.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1955 (NET) THIS STATION WAS ESTABLISHED BUT NOT OCCUPIED BY AN OBSERVING UNIT. THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 8 MILES SOUTHEAST OF REPUBLIC AND 0.4 MILE NORTH OF SAGOLA LAKE ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF A NARROW RIDGE IN SECTION 6, T.45N., R.28W. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 95 AND MAIN STREET IN REPUBLIC, GO EAST ON MAIN STREET 0.8 MILE TO RAILROAD CROSSING. CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD 1.7 MILES TO A FORK. TURN LEFT, GO 3.4 MILES TO A FORK. TURN LEFT, GO 4.0 MILES TO A FORK. TURN RIGHT, GO 0.55 MILE TO A FORK. TURN LEFT, GO 0.1 MILE TO TRIANGULAR BLAZED TREES AND STATION ABOUT 100 YARDS TO THE NORTHWEST UP RIDGE. THE STATION MARK, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED CAMP 1955 IS SET IN A CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH PROJECTS 6 INCHES AND IS ABOUT 100 YARDS SOUTH OF A CEMENT BLOCK HOUSE. A STANDARD WITNESS POST WAS SET 4.5 FEET WEST OF THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED CAMP NO 1 1955, SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH PROJECTS 2 INCHES. IT IS 10 FEET SOUTH OF A PINE TREE WITH A TRIANGLE BLAZE ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDE AND APPROXIMATELY 1 FOOT LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED CAMP NO 2 1955, SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH PROJECTS 2 INCHES. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 1 FOOT LOWER THAN THE STATION. THERE WAS NO SUITABLE PLACE TO SET AN AZIMUTH MARK.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
