Obvious location could be seen from a pull off on the Beartooth WMA road about one half mile past the Headquarters area. 1+15 pack, 1168 ft elevation gain to a lovely copper bolt leaded into a native bowlder (1891 spelling).

Possible target for Sept 2013 - and a scab site for photos of MORC NONPID BM 26. Found 29 June 2009 by reading the original hard copy description given to me by SquareNail.

From: War Department Corps of Engineers, United States Army Bulletin # 3, Descriptions and Elevations of Bench Marks on the Missouri River Elevations Referred to St. Louis City Directrix 1912.

"B. M. 26: Is on R. B. on neck of Oxbow Bend; being copper bolt leaded vertically in a ledge on west face of a rocky cliff, about 5 feet above the highest point in road and on the east east side of wagon road which crosses the neck. Elev., 3217.204"

DESCRIBED BY MISSOURI RIVER COMMISSION 1891 WILLOW CREEK IS ON RIGHT BANK, ON A VERY HIGH RIDGE RUNNING N. AND S. BETWEEN WILLOW CREEK AND COTTONWOOD CREEK, AND 4-1/2 MI. BACK FROM RIVER. TRIANGULATION STATION IS NOT ON HIGHEST PART OF HILL, BUT ON A GRASSY SPOT 40 FT. IN FRONT OF A ROCKY RIDGE 15 FT. HIGHER THAN STATION. STATION MARK--COPPER BOLT. REFERENCE MARKS--NONE.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
