DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1946 (EBB) LOCATED ON DARLIN MOUNTAIN ABOUT 8 MILES WEST OF THE AHTANUM CREEK GUARD STATION. IT IS 12 FEET SOUTHWEST FROM THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF BUNK HOUSE AND 33.5 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT. IT IS STAMPED DARLIN 1946 AND PROJECTS 4 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 41.5 NORTH OF THE BUNK HOUSE. IT IS STAMPED DARLIN NO 1 1946 AND PROJECTS 4 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS A USFS BRONZE DISK CENTERED UNDER THE LOOKOUT AND SET IN A BOULDER FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS STAMPED DARLAND L O 1938. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE AHTANUM CREEK GUARD STATION TAKE THE DARLAND MOUNTAIN ROAD FOR 6 MILES TO A FORK AND SIGN DARLAND MTN. TAKE RIGHT FORK 5 MILES TO TOP OF DARLAND MTN. AND THE STATION.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1947 (WRH) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AND ALL MARKS WERE FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION AS DESCRIBED. AN AZIMUTH MARK WAS ESTABLISHED. THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 30 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF YAKIMA, AND ABOUT 9 MILES SOUTH OF THE TIETON RESERVOIR, AND IS NEAR THE DARLAND MTN. LOOKOUT TOWER OF THE STATE FOREST SERVICE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE TAMPICO STORE, WHICH IS ABOUT 21 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF YAKIMA, GO WESTERLY ON THE ROAD NORTH OF THE STORE FOR 10.4 MILES TO THE AHTANUM GUARD STATION OF THE STATE FOREST SERVICE. CONTINUE ON ROAD UP GRADE JUST SOUTH OF THE GUARD STATION, PASSING THROUGH A LOCKED GATE (KEY AT THE GUARD STATION) FOR 6.7 MILE TO A FORK. TAKE RIGHT FORK AS PER SIGN DARLAND MTN L.O. FOR 5.0 MILES TO A FORK AT SUMMIT OF A RIDGE. KEEP RIGHT FORK FOR 0.9 MILE TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND STATION. THE MARK IS A STANDARD BRONZE DISK SET IN A CONCRETE BLOCK PROJECTING ABOUT 2 INCHES, 12.5 METERS NORTH NORTHWEST OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, AND ABOUT 5.5 METERS SOUTHEAST OF THE WOODSHED. IT IS STAMPED DARLIN 1946. REFERENCE MARK NO 1 IS A STANDARD BRONZE REFERENCE DISK SET IN A BLOCK OF CONCRETE PROJECTING ABOUT 4 INCHES, ABOUT 45 FEET WEST OF THE ROAD CENTER, 3 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. IT IS STAMPED DARLIN NO 1 1946. THE USFS MARK IS A STANDARD BRONZE UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE DISK SET IN A BURIED BOULDER PROJECTING ABOUT 4 INCHES, AND IS IN THE CENTER OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. IT IS STAMPED DARLAND MTN L.O.T. 1938. USGS BM IS A STANDARD UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY BENCH MARK SET IN A BOULDER LYING LOOSE ON THE GROUND. IT IS STAMPED VA 6979 T. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD BRONZE DISK SET IN A BURIED BOULDER PROJECTING ABOUT 8 INCHES, 0.6 MILES BY ROAD SOUTHEAST OF THE STATION, ABOUT 100 YARDS SOUTHEAST OF A NARROW SADDLE OF THE RIDGE, ABOUT 40 FEET NORTH OF THE ROAD AND ABOUT 10 FEET SOUTH OF RIM. IT IS STAMPED DARLIN 1947.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
