Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1906 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1906 (JSH) ON THE HIGHEST PART OF THE HEAVILY WOODED SUMMIT OF ELK MOUNTAIN, ABOUT 35 MILES NE OF WOODLAND. THE STATION IS MARKED BY AN OLD-TYPE STATION MARK, CEMENTED INTO A DRILL HOLE IN THE ROCK. TWO REFERENCE MARK ARE DRILL OR PUNCH HOLES IN THE TOP OF 3/8-INCH COPPER BOLTS 3 INCHES LONG, WHICH ARE LEADED OR CEMENTED INTO DRILL HOLES IN ROCK WITH THE TOP OF THE BOLT FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE, ARE AT THE FOLLOWING DISTANCES AND BEARINGS FROM THE STATION--6.28 METERS, S 36 DEG 56 MIN W. AND 10.84 METERS S 40 DEG 58 MIN E. A DRILL HOLE IN A STONE 12 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND ABOUT 2 FEET BELOW THE GROUND THE CROSS ON THE DISK IS DIRECTLY ABOVE A CROSS ON THE COPPER BOLT AND THESE CROSSES MARK THE STATION. THE REFERENCE MARKS ARE COPPER BOLTS SET IN THE CENTER OF TRIANGULAR BLAZES ON EACH OF 3 STUMPS ON THE SIDES FACING THE STATION, THE FIRST BEING 9.24 METERS FROM THE STATION N 75 DEG 38 MIN W, THE SECOND 9.13 METERS, N 14 DEG 44 MIN W, AND THE THIRD 7.90 METERS, S 14 DEG 26 MIN E. TWO BLAZED TREES ARE AT THE FOLLOWING DISTANCES AND BEARINGS FROM THE STATION--18.24 METERS, N 27 DEG 08 MIN W. AND 26.44 METERS, N 77 DEG 50 MIN E.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
