DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1947 (WRH) THE STATION IS ON THE SUMMIT OF THE MOUNTAIN ON WHICH IS LOCATED THE ABERNETHY LOOKOUT, WEST OF AND AT THE HEADWATERS OF CAMPBELL CREEK. ABOUT 3-1/2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE TOWN OF RYDERWOOD. THE STATION MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED CAMPBELL 1947, SET IN A CONCRETE POST 8 INCHES SQUARE, PROJECTING 6 INCHES. IT IS 60.5 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, AND 5.8 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE GUY POST. REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 1 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED CAMPBELL NO 1 1947, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 2 FOOT SQUARE CONCRETE BLOCK THAT HOLDS THE GUY POST TO LOOKOUT TOWER. IT PROJECTS 6 INCHES AND IS 10 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 2 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED CAMPBELL NO 2 1947, SET IN A 8 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE BLOCK, PROJECTING 4 INCHES AND 2 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. IT IS UNDER AND ABOUT 3 FEET FROM CENTER OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED CAMPBELL 1947, SET IN A 8 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 4 INCHES. IT IS 30.3 FEET NORTH OF ROAD LEADING TO THE STATION. TO REACH FROM THE STATION GO SOUTH SOUTHEAST FOR 0.4 MILE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. THE ABERNETHY LOOKOUT TOWER IS A WOODEN STRUCTURE, ABOUT 100 FEET TO THE ROOF. THE CABIN ON TOP IS ABOUT 10 FEET SQUARE. NOTE--STATIONS MONAHAN AND ABERNETHY (USED) CANNOT BE SEEN FROM THE GROUND. THEY CAN BE SEEN FROM THE LOOKOUT TOWER AT 76 FEET OR ABOVE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM CASTLE ROCK GO WEST FROM THE CITY HALL, CROSSING THE COWLITZ RIVER BRIDGE, FOR 0.6 MILE TO HIGHWAY JUNCTION. TURN RIGHT, NORTH, ON COUNTY ROAD NO. 16 AND GO 2.9 MILES TO BEEBE ROAD. TURN LEFT ON BEEBE ROAD, UPGRADE, FOR 1.5 MILES TO ROAD ON LEFT JUST NORTH OF HOUSE, AT DIVISION OF FORESTRY SIGN. TURN LEFT AND GO 0.3 MILE TO A LOCKED GATE, (PROCURE KEY FROM MR. AMON BEBE, THE DISTRICT WARDEN AT THE STATE FORESTRY FIRE HALL, KELSO, WASHINGTON), CONTINUE FOR 8.1 MILES TO INTERSECTION. TAKE LEFT FORK AS PER SIGN ABERNETHY LOOKOUT AND GO 9.4 MILES. TAKE RIGHT FORK AS PER SIGN ABERNETHY LOOKOUT AND GO 2.1 MILES TO THE LOOKOUT AND STATION.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
