Did not know if there was a mark on this mountain top, but did the search as if there was one. I did not see any large boulders on top, just a lot of nails and rubble from the burning of the towe in the past. I would want to do another search from the center of the concrete footers to the record distance before confirming the monuments demise.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1940 (ANS) THE STATION IS IN THE COEUR D ALENE NATIONAL FOREST. IT IS ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES S AND 11-1/2 MILES W FROM NOXON, MONTANA, 1/2 MILE W OF THE IDAHO AND MONTANA STATE LINE. IT IS ON THE MOST WESTERLY AND HIGHER OF TWO PEAKS ON THE MONTANA AND IDAHO DIVIDE. THE EASTERLY PEAK IS KNOWN AS 80 PEAK AND THERE IS A LOOKOUT HOUSE AND A STATE LINE MILE POST ON IT. THERE IS A LOOKOUT TOWER ON IDAHO POINT. THE STATION IS 29.64 FEET SSE OF THE CENTER OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND IS SET IN A LARGE BOULDER. IT IS A U.S.G.S. REFERENCE MARK, STAMPED R.M. NO. 2. AT THE TIME THE STATION WAS OCCUPIED, THE FOLLOWING WAS STAMPED ON THE DISK--IDAHO PK. C. AND G.S. 1940. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS CENTERED BENEATH THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND IS SET IN A BOULDER. IT IS A U.S.G.S. BENCH MARK, STAMPED IDAHO PT. 1938. AT THE TIME THE STATION WAS OCCUPIED, IT WAS STAMPED C. AND G.S. IDAHO PK. R.M. NO. 1, 1940. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN NOXON, MONTANA GO NW FOR 0.1 MILE TO A FORK AND SIGN READING PILGRIM CREEK ROAD, NO. 149. TAKE LEFT FORK AND FOLLOW PILGRIM CREEK ROAD S AND W FOR 6.4 MILES TO A DIM FORK ON THE LEFT AND A SIGN READING SOUTH FORK ROAD. CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD ON THE RIGHT FORK, MAIN ROAD, FOR 0.05 MILE TO ANOTHER FORK AND SIGN READING 80 PEAK ROAD. THEN TAKE THE LEFT FORK AND FOLLOW 80 PEAK ROAD UPHILL FOR 4.6 MILES TO A FORK. TAKE LEFT FORK AND FOLLOW 80 PEAK ROAD FOR 2.75 MILES TO THE TOP OF THE DIVIDE. TURN LEFT AND GO S FOR 0.7 MILE TO IDAHO POINT LOOKOUT AND THE STATION.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
