DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1979 (CLN) THE STATION MARK WAS FOUND TO BE DESTROYED. THE ROCK OUTCROP HAD BEEN BROKEN OUT OF THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS FOUND DESTROYED WITH ONLY THE BATTERED STEM REMAINING. REFERENCE MARK 1 AND THE AZIMUTH MARK WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE STATION MARK WAS REPLACED USING THE ANGLE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK AND THE DEERPARK ELEVATED TANK AND THE DISTANCE TO THE RMS. A NEW REFERENCE MARK 3 WAS ESTABLISHED AT THIS DATE. DUE TO CHANGES IN THE AREA COMPLETE NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A PROMINENT PEAK LOCALLY KNOWN AS SCOOP MTN. THAT IS ABOUT 18 MILES NORTHWEST OF SPOKANE, 17 MILES NORTHEAST OF REARDAN, 8 MILES WEST OF DEER PARK. AND ON THE SOUTH ONE OF THREE SUMMITS OF THE MOUNTAIN. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN NINE MILE GO NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 291 FOR 2.1 MILES TO THE SPOKANE-STEVENS COUNTY LINE AND THE END OF STATE HIGHWAY 291. CONTINUE NORTHERLY ON THE SURFACED ROAD FOR 10.3 MILES TO THE POST OFFICE IN THE VILLAGE OF TUM TUM. CONTINUE AHEAD WEST ON THE SURFACED ROAD FOR 0.1 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON THE GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.9 MILE TO A T-INTERSECTION. TURN RIGHT AND GO EAST ON THE GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.5 MILE TO THREE FORKS. TAKE THE EXTREME LEFT FORK AND GO NORTHERLY ON THE GRAVELED ROAD FOR 2.9 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO EASTERLY UP HILL ON THE BLADED ROAD FOR 2.4 MILES TO A FORK. TAKE THE RIGHT FORK AND GO UPHILL ON THE WASHED OUT LOGGING ROAD FOR 0.3 MILE TO A FORK. TAKE THE RIGHT FORK AND GO SOUTHERLY UPHILL ON THE LOGGING ROAD FOR 0.3 MILE TO THE TOP OF THE RIDGE AND THE STATION ON THE HIGHEST POINT. THE STATION IS A STANDARD NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY DISK STAMPED ---SCOOP USGS 1933 1979---SET IN AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE IN A DEPRESSION IN THE BED ROCK ON THE HIGHEST POINT. NO UNDERGROUND MARK WAS SET. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD US COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY (NOW NOS) DISK STAMPED---SCOOP USGS NO 1 1933---SET INTO ROCK OUTCROP LOCATED ON THE SOUTH EAST SLOPE OF THE HILL AND 1.5 METERS (5 FEET) LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS THE STEM OF THE REFERENCE MARK CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A BOULDER THAT PROJECTS 2 FT ABOVE THE GROUND LOCATED ON THE NORTH EDGE OF THE HIGH POINT AND 0.3 METER (1 FOOT) LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 IS A STANDARD NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY DISK STAMPED---SCOOP USGS 1933 NO 3 1979---CEMENTED INTO A DEPRESSION IN THE BED ROCK LOCATED ON THE WEST SLOPE OF THE HILL AND 1.2 METERS (4 FEET) LOWER THAN THE STATION. AZIMUTH MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD US COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY (NOW NOS) DISK STAMPED---SCOOP 1936---SET INTO THE TOP OF A BOULDER OF 0.9 METER (3 FEET) LARGEST DIMENSION LOCATED 18.9 METERS (62 FEET) NW FROM THE HIGHEST POINT AND 2.4 METERS (8 FEET) LOWER THAN THE HIGHEST POINT. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE STATION PACK SOUTH EAST ALONG THE TOP OF THE RIDGE FOR ABOUT 0.2 MILE TO THE NEXT ROCKY POINT ON THE RIDGE TO THE MARK ON THE NORTH WEST SLOPE OF THE POINT.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
