Found it after a nearby geocache. I'm guessing the paint disappeared during the fire in 2012.

An easy drive too find.

Easy find. Not everyone is logging the right marker as the station marker. Several are logging the RM2 (reference marker 2) as finding the station mark. Triangulation stations have a station marker, Reference marker #1 (this one is missing), Reference marker #2 and an Azimuth marker. See if you can find all of them. Hint: the Azimuth marker is .78 mile away on a 15 degree True heading from the Station Marker.

Found this in relatively good condition, scratched up but still readable. Beautiful view from Lion Rock area and the road to/from, if you like far views with steep dropoffs.

Found it while up hunting.

Found this while testing the new hi-lift jack mount I added to my truck.

Found this one in 2008 when I was up here for the Table Mountain Star Party and found in my photo album, so am logging now.

Found with K9Krazy.

I came here for the view and the Lion Rock Cache. My brother almost ran over this one as we drove up. Both this and the nearby benchmark are dented but legible.

Found with alciato.

Up here camping for the night to watch the Perseid meteor shower. Found the benchmark and RM2, but not RM1. Reading the datasheet I now see that the RM1 disc is missing. My GPSr readings at the station are shown above.

Found in good condition, but I will be back for the cache now that I know it is up here.

Easy to find. Face is beat up like the other nearby one.

After finding the nearby cache, Patudles showed us to the benchmark. Glad I could find it.

There it is. Almost smacked it with the door of the truck when I got out.

Heavily scratched

Same as other comments

This benchmark was recovered today as described. The surface is heavily scratched, making it difficult to make out LION ROCK and 1941. The views from here are spectacular as you can see from the accompanying photos.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1995.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
