DESCRIBED BY WASHINGTON GEODETIC SURVEY 1937 STATION IS LOCATED ON HIGHEST POINT OF LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN AND IS 2 MILES NE OF SELLECK AND ABOUT 4 MILES SE OF TAYLOR. STATION IS A STANDARD STATE SURVEY DISK STAMPED KING COUNTY AERIAL SURVEY AND SET IN A BOULDER UNDER THE CENTER OF THE TOWER. REFERENCE MARK IS SIMILAR AND SET 24.37 FEET MAGNETIC N 55 DEG W FROM STATION. STATION IS REACHED AS FOLLOWS--FROM HOBART SCHOOL DRIVE 2.5 MILES E TO PATROLMENS CABIN GATE. GO THROUGH GATE, PASS CABIN AND FOLLOW MAIN-TRAVELED ROAD 3.9 MILES E TO TRESTLE. PASS UNDER TRESTLE AND GO 2.3 MILES, TAKE LEFT FORK, SEE SIGN LOOKOUT MT. ROAD, GO 0.5 MILE TO FORK AND SECOND SIGN LOOKOUT MT. ROAD, FORK OF OLD AND NEW ROAD. FOLLOW NEW ROAD E TO SHARP V-TURN, GO W TO TOWER ON TOP OF HILL WHICH IS 4.5 MILES FROM FORK OF OLD AND NEW ROAD. STATION IS CENTERED UNDER LOOKOUT TOWER 17.2 FEET NW OF NE CORNER OF CABIN AND 17.5 FEET NE OF NW CORNER OF CABIN, AND 21 FEET TO CENTER LINE OF ROAD ON E AND 24 FEET TO CENTER LINE OF ROAD W. NEAR W 1/16 CORNER IN THE N LINE, SEC.7, T.22, R.8. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 1.5 METERS.

RECOVERY NOTE BY BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION 1963 THIS STATION IS KNOWN AS CEDAR POINT LOOKOUT AND IS REACHED AS FOLLOWS-- FROM OLD SCHOOLHOUSE AT HOBART GO EAST ON S.E. 208TH ST. 2.8 MILES TO FORK IN ROAD. TAKE RIGHT FORK, GRAVEL ROAD, AND GO 3.6 MILES TO SEATTLE WATER SHED, LOCKED GATE, TURN RIGHT THRU GATE ON ROAD NO. 20 AND GO 1.5 MILES TO ROAD JUNCTION. TURN SHARP RIGHT ONTO ROAD NO. 23 AND CLIMB UP STEEP GRADE 0.9 MILE TO LOOKOUT TOWER AND STATION. TOWER HAS BEEN REBUILT AND STATION IS 4.3 FEET WEST OF NORTHWEST CORNER OF TOWER. MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE SEATTLE CITY WATER DEPARTMENT (SANITARY ENGINEER) TO ENTER AREA. PHONE--SEATTLE 613-8320.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1973 (JLC) THE STATION MARK WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION, THE REFERENCE MARK WAS SEARCHED FOR AND NOT FOUND. DUE TO THE STATION MARK BEING TO CLOSE TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER A REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS ESTABLISHED AND OCCUPIED AS A STATION. A REFERENCE MARK 3 WAS ALSO ESTABLISHED. FOLLOWING IS A COMPLETE NEW DESCRIPTION. THE STATION IS ABOUT 6 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF NORTH BEND, 3 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF CEDAR FALLS, IN THE NW 1/4 SECTION 7, T22N, R8E AND ON THE PROPERTY OF THE SEATTLE WATER DEPARTMENT. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE RAILROAD DEPOT IN CEDAR FALLS, GO SOUTH FOR 0.2 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD ON THE RIGHT. (THIS IS ABOUT 0.1 MILE NORTH OF THE SEATTLE WATER DEPARTMENT OFFICE). TURN RIGHT FOR 0.05 MILE TO A GATE, PASS THROUGH THE GATE AND TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTHERLY ON GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.7 MILE TO A FORK. TAKE THE RIGHT FORK AND GO SOUTHERLY FOR 0.1 MILE TO A RAILROAD CROSSING, CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ON GRAVELED ROAD FOR 0.9 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD ON THE RIGHT AND SIGN CEDAR POINT LOOKOUT AND ROAD 20. TURN RIGHT AND GO WESTERLY ON ROAD 20 FOR 0.2 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD ON THE RIGHT, TURN RIGHT AND CONTINUE NORTHERLY ON ROAD 20 FOR 1.15 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD ON THE LEFT AND SIGN CEDAR POINT LOOKOUT AND ROAD 23. TURN LEFT AND GO WESTERLY ON ROAD 23 FOR 0.75 MILES TO THE CEDAR POINT LOOKOUT TOWER AND THE STATION. STATION MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED LOOKOUT 1937 KING CO. AEIAL, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN BEDROCK THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 31.0 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF A TRACK ROAD, 15.3 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF A SMALL TIN BUILDING AND 4.4 FEET WEST OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. LOOKOUT RM 2 IS A STANDARD REFERENCE MARK DISK, STAMPED LOOKOUT NO 2 1937 1973, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN BEDROCK THAT IS 12 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 31.9 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, 23.6 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF A RED BLOCK BUILDING AND 36.5 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. REFERENCE MARK 3 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED LOOKOUT 1937 NO 3 1973, SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 4 INCHES. IT IS 43.3 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, 32.0 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF TRACK ROAD AND 37.6 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. THERE WAS NO SUITABLE LOCATION FOR AN AZIMUTH MARK. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 74 FEET. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN 3 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF CEDAR FALLS.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
