DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1936 (GCJ) STATION IS ON THE E SHORE OF PICKERING PASSAGE, W SHORE OF HARSTINE ISLAND, 4.1 MILES (NAUTICAL) N OF THE N END OF SQUAXIN ISLAND. THREE METERS OFF-SHORE FROM THE HIGH-WATER LINE, 240 METERS N OF THE MIDDLE OF A SLOUGH AND 280 METERS S OF A SECOND SMALL SLOUGH OR INDENTATION. ONE NAUTICAL MILE N OF THE HEAD OF THE BAY WHICH IS ON THE W SIDE AT THE FERRY LANDING. STATION AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 ARE STANDARD BRONZE DISKS WEDGED IN DRILL HOLES IN BOULDERS, AS DESCRIBED IN NOTES 4 AND 12C.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1967 (HJS) THE STATION MARK AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 WERE RECOVERED. A COMPLETE NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS-- THE STATION IS ABOUT 9-1/2 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF SHELTON, 1.0 MILE NORTH OF THE FERRY LANDING ON THE WEST SIDE OF HARTSTENE ISLAND, 1/4 MILE NORTH OF THE SOUTH SECTION LINE OF SECTION 34, T 21 N, R 2 W., AND ON A SLIGHT PROTRUSION OF THE SHORELINE. THE STATION MARK, STAMPED FOOT 1936, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 1 1/2X3-FOOT BOULDER WHICH PROJECTS 1 FOOT. IT IS 38 FEET WEST OF THE 10-FOOT BANK AT THE HIGH WATER LINE. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, STAMPED FOOT NO. 1 1936, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 2-FOOT DIAMETER BLACK BOULDER WHICH PROJECTS 16 INCHES. IT IS 45.6 FEET NORTH OF THE STATION AND 5 YARDS WEST OF A 3 X 4-FOOT GRANITE BOULDER WHICH PROJECTS 3 FEET. THIS GRANITE BOULDER IS 3 FEET WEST OF THE BANK AT THE HIGH WATER LINE. TO REACH FROM THE FERRY DOCK ON THE WEST SIDE OF HARTSTENE ISLAND, FOLLOW THE BLACKTOP ROAD SOUTHERLY 200 FEET TO A Y, KEEP LEFT FORK 2.25 MILES TO A ROAD LEFT (SUNSET HILL ROAD), TURN LEFT AND GO WEST 0.7 MILE TO A ROAD LEFT, TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTH 0.4 MILE TO A Y, KEEP RIGHT 0.05 MILE TO Y, KEEP LEFT AND GO SOUTH 0.15 MILE CURVE RIGHT AND GO WEST 0.15 MILE TO A HOUSE. WALK AROUND NORTH SIDE OF THE HOUSE TO THE BEACH AND SOUTH ALONG THE BEACH ABOUT 190 YARDS TO A DRAW WITH TWO CABINS AND A STREAM, CONTINUE SOUTH ALONG THE BEACH ABOUT 300 YARDS TO THE STATION.

RECOVERY NOTE BY LOCAL SURVEYOR (INDIVIDUAL OR FIRM) 1973 (CR) FOOT 1936 GOOD BRASS DISK SET IN BOULDER ON LARGE SIZE GRAVEL BEACH. DISTANCE MEASURED TO R.M. NO 1 = 45.51 FT. R.M. NO. 1 IS LEGIBLE BRASS DISK SET IN BOULDER IN SANDY PORTION OF BEACH. DISTANCE MEASURED BETWEEN CULL AND FOOT = 2140.75 FT. DISTANCE MEASURED BETWEEN POLL AND FOOT = 2844.92 FT. BOTH DISTANCES MEASURED BY HEWLETT-PACKARD DISTANCE METER.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
