Oaknest and I spotted these standpipes/water tanks while caching in the area.

Out caching, and I decided to look to see if that obvious landmark was a benchmark. And it was.

According to the description the right standpipe is the one close to the street.

Hmm so those are called standpipes!

Found today but didn't realize what a standpipe was. I was thinking a little smaller!

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1973 (JLC) THE POINT INTERSECTED WAS THE TOP CENTER OF THE NORTH ONE OF TWO STANDPIPES BELONGING TO KING COUNTY WATER DISTRICT NO. 97. IT IS IN THE EAST PART OF BELLEVUE, 3/4 MILE WEST OF LAKE SAMMAMISH AND AT 16049 NE 8TH ST. THE STANDPIPE IS PAINTED GREEN AND IS APPROXIMATELY 85 FEET HIGH.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
