DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (OSR) THE STATION IS ON THE HIGHEST PART OF REID MOUNTAIN, AT THE SITE OF THE OLD REID LOOKOUT TOWER WHICH HAS BEEN TORN DOWN. THE HILL IS COVERED WITH YOUNG, SMALL PINE TREES WITH A SCATTERING OF BRUSH. IT IS IN THE FLATHEAD NATIONAL FOREST, IN SECTION 24, T 30 N, R 24 W. IT IS ABOUT 13 MILES WEST AND 10 MILES NORTH OF KALISPELL, 4-1/2 MILES SOUTH AND 11-1/2 MILES WEST OF WHITEFISH, 2-1/4 MILES SOUTH AND 2-1/2 MILES WEST OF TALLY LAKE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF U.S. HIGHWAYS 2 AND 93 IN KALISPELL, GO WEST ON HIGHWAY 2 FOR 0.7 MILE TO A CROSSROADS (FAIRGROUNDS IN NORTHEAST ANGLE), TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH FO 0.7 MILE TO A FORK, TAKE THE LEFT ROAD AND GO WEST AND NORTH FOR 5.6 MILES TO A CROSSROADS AND SCHOOLHOUSE IN SOUTHWEST ANGLE, CONTINUE NORTH FOR 2.7 MILES TO A CROSSROADS AND SCHOOLHOUSE IN SOUTHWEST ANGLE, CONTINUE NORTH FOR 1.0 MILE TO A CROSSROADS AND END OF MACADAM ROAD, CONTINUE NORTHERLY FOR 2.1 MILES TO A REVERSE Y-JUNCTION ON THE RIGHT, BEAR LEFT AND GO NORTHWESTERLY FOR 1.7 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE THE LEFT ROAD AND GO 1.2 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE THE LEFT ROAD AND GO 0.1 MILE TO A FORK, TAKE THE RIGHT ROAD AND GO NORTHERLY FOR 4.9 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT AND SIGN MOUNTAIN MEADOWS 3, CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD FOR 3.35 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT, CONTINUE AHEAD FOR 5.05 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT AND SIGN LOGAN PASS, TURN LEFT AND GO WESTERLY FOR 0.7 MILE TO A TRACK ROAD FORK LEFT AND THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. A TRUCK CAN BE DRIVEN ANOTHER 1-1/2 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. HORSES WERE USED FROM THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. GO NORTHEAST FOR ABOUT 1-1/2 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT, TURN RIGHT AND FOLLOW GOOD TRAIL EASTERLY FOR ABOUT 4 MILES TO A TRAIL LEADING TO THE RIGHT, TURN RIGHT, UP HILL AND GO ABOUT 3/4 MILE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION. THE STATION MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED REID 1959, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTHEAST 2 X 2 FOOT FOOTING OF THE OLD LOOKOUT TOWER AND PROJECTS 10 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A STANDRD DISK, STAMPED REID NO 1 1959, CEMENTED IN THE TOP OF THE NORTHEAST 2 X 2 FOOTING OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND PROJECTS 10 INCHES. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED REID NO 2 1959, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTHWEST 2 X 2 FOOTING OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND PROJECTS 10 INCHES. NO SUITABLE LOCATION COULD BE FOUND FOR AN AZIMUTH MARK. THIS IS ABOUT A 3 HOUR HORSE PACK FROM THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
