DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (OSR) STATION IS ABOUT 5-1/2 MILES NORTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF LITTLE BITTERROOT LAKE AND ABOUT 3-1/2 MILES WEST OF THE SOUTHWEST END OF ASHELY LAKE, ON A PROMINENT TIMBERED HILL, THERE IS A HUMP SOUTH THAT IS JUST A LITTLE LOWER, THE STATION IS JUST SOUTH OF THE CENTER NEAR THE LINE BETWEEN SECTIONS 1 AND 2, T 28 N, R 24 W. THIS STATION WAS REACHED BY HELICOPTER. IT CAN ALSO BE REACHED BY TRUCK AND BACK PACK. REACHED FROM THE POST OFFICE IN MARION, GO NORTHWEST ON MAIN ROAD FOR 0.6 MILE TO A FORK AND SIGN PLEASANT VALLEY, TAKE RIGHT FORK NORTHERLY FOR 3.25 MILES TO A T-ROAD LEFT LEADING TO A STATE PARK, CONTINUE AHEAD NORTHERLY FOR 1 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT AND SIGN TRAIL AND ROAD 150, TAKE SIDE ROAD RIGHT, EASTERLY FOR 1.3 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE RIGHT FORK, SOUTHEASTERLY FOR 2.8 MILES TO A FORK, A TRAIL TO THE RIGHT, A SIGN TRAIL NO 149 AND THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL, FROM HERE PACK EASTERLY UP GOOD TRAIL FOR ABOUT 1-1/4 MILES TO A TRAIL JUNCTION, TURN SHARP LEFT AND FOLLOW DIM BLAZED TRAIL NORTHERLY ALONG EAST SIDE OF RIDGE ABOUT 1/2 MILE TO A CAIRN IN THE TRAIL, THE STATION IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT WHICH IS VISIBLE ABOUT 1/4 MILE AHEAD, CONTINUE NORTHERLY ON TRAIL TO THE BASE OF HILL, THEN WEST UP HILL TO THE HIGHEST POINT AND STATION. STATION MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED PLEASANT 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN FLUSH BEDROCK HAVING AN EXPOSED AREA OF 1 X 1 FOOT. IT IS 20 FEET NORTH OF AN 8 INCH PINE TREE WITH A TRIANGLE BLAZE ON THE NORTH SIDE. IT IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE HILL. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED PLEASANT NO 1 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN FLUSH BEDROCK HAVING AN EXPOSED AREA OF 1 X 2 FEET. IT IS 13 FEET EAST OF THE 8 INCH PINE TREE. IT IS ABOUT 2 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED PLEASANT NO 2 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 2 X 2 FOOT BOULDER PROJECTING 8 INCHES. IT IS 41 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE 8 INCH PINE TREE. IT IS ABOUT 3 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
