Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1960 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (OSR) THE STATION IS ABOUT 8 MILES EAST AND 1-1/2 MILES SOUTH OF TREGO, 16 MILES EAST AND 18-1/2 MILES NORTH OF WHITEFISH, 16 MILES EAST AND 13-1/2 MILES SOUTH OF EUREKA, ON THE SUMMIT OF STRYKER PEAK AND NEAR THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF SECTION 27, T 34 N, R 24 W, AND NEAR THE SITE OF AN ABANDONED LOOKOUT TOWER. THE STATION WAS REACHED BY HELICOPTER. THERE IS A HELIPORT ABOUT 1/4 MILE WEST (AIRLINE) OR 1/2 MILE BY STEEP TRAIL FROM THE STATION, ANOTHER HELIPORT LIES ABOUT 80 FEET WEST OF THE STATION SITE BUT IS DIFFICULT TO LAND ON. THE STATION CAN ALSO BE REACHED BY TRUCK AND TRAIL FROM STRYKER BY GOING NORTHWESTERLY ON A GRAVELED ROAD FOR ABOUT 3 MILES TO A TRAIL LEADING WEST. FROM THIS POINT PACK WEST AND SOUTH FOR ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES TO THE SUMMIT OF THE PEAK AND THE STATION. THE STATION MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED STRYKER 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 3 BY 4 FOOT ROCK OUTCROP THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 10 FEET WEST OF THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE PEAK, 27.4 FEET NORTHWEST OF NORTHWEST CONCRETE FOOTING OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, 35.7 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CONCRETE FOOTING AND 14 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE PEAK. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED STRYKER NO 1 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN ROCK OUTCROP THAT PROJECTS 1 FOOT ON THE WEST AND SOUTH SIDES AND 3 FEET ON THE NORTH AND EAST SIDES. IT IS 63.4 FEET WEST OF THE NORTHWEST FOOTING OF THE TOWER, 14 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE PEAK AND 2 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY DISK, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 2 BY 3 FOOT ROCK OUTCROP THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. THE DISK IS STAMPED 7331 VA. IT IS 17.7 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST FOOTING OF THE TOWER 25 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE PEAK AND AT THE SAME ELEVATION AS THE STATION. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED STRYKER 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 3 BY 4 FOOT ROCK OUTCROP THAT PROJECTS 1 FOOT. IT IS 3 FEET SOUTH OF A 3-1/2 FOOT HIGH CAIRN, 150 FEET SOUTH AND ABOUT 50 FEET HIGHER THAN THE TRAIL AND ABOUT 200 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
