DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (OSR) STATION IS ABOUT 10-1/2 MILES WEST AND 4 MILES SOUTH OF TREGO, 9 MILES WEST OF THE LINCOLN-FLATHEAD COUNTY LINE AND 7-1/2 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE KOOTENAI RIVER. IT IS ON A HIGH TIMBER COVERED MOUNTAIN IN THE NORTHEAST 1/4 OF SECTION 9, T 33 N, R 27 W. TO REACH FROM THE POST OFFICE IN TREGO, GO SOUTHERLY AND WEST ON GOOD GRAVEL ROAD UP GRADE FOR 0.45 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT AT SIGNS FORTUNE CREEK ROAD, EDNA CREEK ROAD 3.5, WOLF CREEK ROAD 8, LAKE CREEK ROAD 11, TURN LEFT, SOUTH AND WESTERLY ON GRAVEL ROAD FOR 3.5 MILES TO A FORK AT SIGN FORTUNE CREEK ROAD AND NUMEROUS OTHER SIGNS, TAKE THE LEFT FORK, WESTERLY FOR 4.7 MILES TO A FORK AT SIGN FORTUNE CREEK ROAD 36 TAKE THE RIGHT FORK 2.2 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE THE RIGHT FORK AS PER SIGN PINKHAM MTN LOOKOUT 7 FOR 1.8 MILES TO A FORK, TAKE THE RIGHT FORK FOR 0.9 MILE TO A FORK AT SIGN STERLING CREEK ROAD, TAKE RIGHT FORK AND FOLLOW NARROW GRADED ROAD FOR 3.5 MILES TO A FORK AT SIGN PINKHAM MTN. L.O., TAKE THE LEFT FORK FOR 1.7 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT AND SIGN ON THE LEFT PINKHAM L.O. 1/2, TURN RIGHT ON GRADED ROAD FOR 0.8 MILE TO THE TOP OF MOUNTAIN, LOOKOUT TOWER AND STATION. STATION MARKS ARE STANDARD DISKS, STAMPED PINKHAM 1959. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN A 12 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 110 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF SOUTHEAST CORNER OF A METAL BUILDING, 59 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF A POWERLINE POLE AND 27 FEET EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. THE UNDERGROUND DISK IS SET IN AN IRREGULAR MASS OF CONCRETE 20 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED PINKHAM NO 1 1959, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 4 X 3 FOOT BOULDER PROJECTING 3 INCHES. IT IS 86 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, 70 FEET EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE BUILDING AND 39 FEET EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE POWERLINE POLE. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED PINKHAM NO 2 1959, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 2 X 2 FOOT CONCRETE GUY FOUNDATION PROJECTING 2 FEET. IT IS 128 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE BUILDING AND 40 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. NO SUITABLE PLACE FOR AN AZIMUTH MARK. A TRAVERSE CONNECTION WAS MADE TO THE DETERMINED CENTER OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER.

RECOVERY NOTE BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1963 (JTD) STATION MARK- STANDARD USC AND GS DISK STAMPED -PINKHAM 1959- SET IN 12 INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST, FLUSH WITH GROUND.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
