DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (OSR) STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 21 MILES SOUTH AND 11 MILES EAST OF LIBBY, 5 MILES WEST AND 3/4 MILE NORTH OF THE SOUTHWEST TIP OF LOON LAKE, 3 MILES NORTH AND 3/4 MILE WEST OF THE RAVEN RANGER STATION ON U.S. HIGHWAY 2, 3 MILES EAST OF FISHER RIVER, NEAR THE EAST SIDE CENTER OF SECTION 22, T 27 N, R 29 W, AT THE HIGHEST PART OF KENELTY MTN HAVING A GEOLOGICAL SURVEY ELEVATION OF 5983 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL AND AT THE SITE OF KENELTY MTN LOOKOUT TOWER. STATION MARK IS A U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY BENCH MARK DISK, STAMPED KENELTY, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK PROJECTING 2 FEET ON THE NORTH SIDE AND FLUSH ON THE SOUTH SIDE. IT IS 31.6 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND 23.4 FEET EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY REFERENCE MARK DISK, STAMPED REF, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN FLUSH BEDROCK. IT IS 10.3 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND 6.4 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG. IT IS AT ABOUT THE SAME ELEVATION AS THE STATION MARK. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED KENELTY NO 2 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK PROJECTING 3 INCHES. IT IS 50 FEET EAST OF THE NORTHEAST LEG OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND 52 FEET EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST LEG. IT IS ABOUT 8 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION MARK. AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED KENELTY 1960, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK PROJECTING 8 INCHES. IT IS IN AN OPEN AREA ON THE SOUTHEAST SLOPE OF THE FIRST RIDGE (RIDGE LIES NORTHEAST-SOUTHWEST) NORTHWEST OF THE STATION AND ABOUT 20 FEET LOWER THAN THE CREST OF THE RIDGE. IT IS 42 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A 6 INCH PINE TREE WITH A TRIANGLE BLAZE ON ITS SOUTHEAST SIDE AND 9 FEET EAST OF AN 8 INCH PINE TREE WITH A TRIANGLE BLAZE ON ITS EAST SIDE. A TRAVERSE CONNECTION WAS MADE TO THE DETERMINED CENTER OF THE BASE OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER, THE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION BEING AS SHOWN ABOVE. STATION WAS REACHED BY HELICOPTER BUT CAN ALSO BE REACHED BY TRUCK AND TRAIL AS FOLLOWS--TO REACH FROM THE RAVEN RANGER STATION, GO NORTHEAST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 2 FOR ABOUT 0.6 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT. TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW GRAVELED ROAD NORTH UP RAVEN CREEK FOR ABOUT 0.5 MILE TO FOREST SERVICE TRAIL NUMBER 104 RIGHT. PACK NORTHERLY AND NORTHWESTERLY ON TRAIL 104 AN AIRLINE DISTANCE OF 2-1/2 MILES TO THE TOP OF KENELTY MTN. AND THE STATION. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE STATION PACK NORTHWESTERLY AND NORTHERLY ACROSS COUNTRY FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO THE MARK AS DESCRIBED.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1992.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
