DESCRIBED BY INTERNATIONAL BOUNDARY COMMISSION 1905 (ECB) THE MONUMENT IS AN ALUMINUM - BRONZE SHAFT SET IN A 3 FOOT SQUARE CONCRETE BASE AND PROJECTS 4-1/2 FEET ABOVE THE BASE. ---CANADA--- IS CAST ON THE NORTH FACE OF THE SHAFT,---UNITED STATES---ON THE SOUTH FACE, AND---TREATY OF 1846, LINE ESTABLISHED 1857-1907---ON THE EAST FACE. ON THE WEST FACE IS A PLATE BEARING THE NUMBER OF THE MONUMENT.

IT IS ON THE N SIDE OF A 15 M WOODEN FIRE TOWER BELONGING TO THE US-FOREST SERVICE. MKD BY A BRONZE IBC OBELISK, 1.4 M HIGH SET IN A 60 CM SQUARE CONC BASE, STPD 83.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
