Seen from Garden Key.

Saw this from Ft. Jefferson.

Came by ferry for the lighthouse at Ft Jefferson; this was a bonus

Spotted the lighthouse from the seaplane on arrival at Fort Jefferson and later from the Fort Jefferson parapet.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1938 (ERM) DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS--STATION IS THE BALL APEX OF LOGGERHEAD KEY LIGHTHOUSE, A BRICK STRUCTURE IN THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF LOGGERHEAD KEY-DRY TORTUGAS GROUP. LIGHT IS 151 FEET HIGH, THE LOWER HALF IS PAINTED WHITE AND THE UPPER HALF BLACK. STATION WAS OCCUPIED ECCENTRICALLY. LIGHT IS NOW LISTED IN LIGHT LIST AS DRY TORTUGAS LIGHTHOUSE.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL OCEAN SERVICE 1991 THE STATION IS THE BALL APEX OF LOGGERHEAD KEY LIGHTHOUSE A 155 FT (47.24 M) TALL STRUCTURE IN THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF LOGGERHEAD KEY. THE LIGHTHOUSE IS LOCATED 70 MI (112.65 KM) WEST OF KEY WEST, FLORIDA.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1991.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
