Station Mark and RM1 recovered as described. RM2 not found. NOTE: Per 1947 recovery, the station disc is NOT STAMPED. Easy to see where the station designation (name) RED came from. The red rock outcrop is very different from the surrounding terrain.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1947 (RDH) ON THE SW SHORE OF SAN CLEMENTE ISLAND ABOUT 2.2 MILES NNW OF EEL POINT ON A PROMINENT RED ROCK AT ABOUT 25 FEET ELEVATION. THE ROCK ON WHICH THE STATION IS LOCATED IS ABOUT 1/3 MILE NW OF THE CENTER OF THE SECOND LARGE BIGHT IN THE SHORELINE NW OF EEL POINT. SURFACE MARK, SET INTO A MASS OF CONCRETE IN A DEPRESSION IN ROCK OUTCROP, IS NOT STAMPED. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, SET INTO A DRILL HOLE IN ROCK OUTCROP, IS STAMPED NO. 1 1933 REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, SET INTO A DRILL HOLE IN ROCK OUTCROP, IS STAMPED NO. 2, 1933

THE SALTWATER PUMPING STATION IS NO LONGER IN USE, BUT THE BUILDINGS WHICH HOUSED IT ARE STILL VISIBLE FROM THE ROAD.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1996. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
