DESCRIBED BY COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION 1994 (LJ) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 25 MI (40.2 KM) WEST OF GRAND JUNCTION, 5 MI (8.0 KM) EAST OF THE UTAH-COLORADO STATE LINE AND 4 MI (6.4 KM) NORTH OF THE RAILROAD STATION AT SHALE ON THE COLORADO RIVER, IN THE SOUTHEAST 1/4 OF SECTION 2, T 10 S, R 104 W, AT INTERSTATE 70 MILEPOST 5.2. OWNERSHIP--COLORADO DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION RIGHT-OF-WAY TO REACH THE STATION FROM INTERSTATE 70 AND EXIT 2, DINOSAUR QUARRY TRAIL, GO EAST ON INTERSTATE 70 FOR 3.3 MI (5.3 KM) TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT IN THE CENTER DIVIDER AREA BETWEEN THE EAST AND WEST BOUND LANES AND JUST EAST OF A TURN AROUND OF THE INTERSTATE THE MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET INTO THE TOP AN ALUMINUM ROD DRIVEN INTO THE GROUND, ENCASED IN A 6-INCH PVC PIPE WITH LOGO LID, SURROUNDED WITH A CONCRETE COLLAR, FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 62.7 M (205.7 FT) EAST-NORTHEAST FROM THE CENTER OF THE TURN AROUND BETWEEN THE EAST AND WEST BOUND LANES, 51.2 M (168.0 FT) NORTH-NORTHEAST FROM THE CENTER LINE OF THE EAST BOUND LANES OF THE INTERSTATE, 24.8 M (81.4 FT) SOUTH-SOUTHWEST FROM THE CENTER LINE OF THE WEST BOUND LANES OF THE INTERSTATE, 0.6 M (2.0 FT) WEST-SOUTHWEST FROM A WITNESS POST AND ABOUT 3 M (9.8 FT) ABOVE THE WEST BOUND LANES OF THE INTERSTATE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1998.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
