So I decided to drive over here on my way to the Hempstead area to do some caching. Well even before I found the cache I found this benchmark hiding but I was able to find this one. It stated 1915 so yea over 100 years old. TFTBenchmark

Driving back from Brenham to Conroe, we made the detour to find this benchmark and nearby cache. Then on to Katy to see the g-daughter!

It was an honor to log this ancient benchmark.

Woo..hoo. First benchmark. Found this when grabbing the nearby cache.
Will use it for the 100 year puzzle cache.

Happen to be on this side of Houston looking for paperback books for my Mother-in-Law at the Katy Budget Books in Katy. Must be 10,000 books in that place.

Heard about an real old benchmark being in the area so I just had to go find it. I was only 10 miles from the location and there was a cache there also.

Found this one with ease.

Found this old benchmark thanks to the nearby cache. Thanks!

On a quest today to find as many Leap Day caches as possible and this was on my radar. Thank you to Bubbermom1 for placing a cache nearby to celebrate 101 birthday of the benchmark. I will now have to make my way down to Baytown for that challenge cache. Thank you again Bubbermom1 for bringing me here:)

Thanks to Bubbermom1's geocache (Happy Birthday 101 Year Benchmark) I found this benchmark today. This should qualify for Houston Control's cache "That 100 Year-Old Find Challenge". Bubbermom and Bubberdad mentioned this BM last week at the UFO event. I made the long drive out to find the cache and the BM today. It was also a chance to find several other caches a long way from home. Thanks for creating this. It was a lot of fun.

Found it with Shake-N-Bake! while we were FTFing bubbermom1's cache she put out here. My first benchmark to log! SNB showed me how it's done. TFTBM!

Found this with TiaLeah when FTFing bubbermom1's cache pointing this one out. I used it to educate TiaLeah on how to log benchmarks!

Found today with TxCinnamon, Geojrh, and Bubberdad. Bubberdad led us right to it.

Found today with TxCinnamon, Searching4You, and Bubberdad, the latter having performed all the hard research leading to us locating this historical benchmark.

Geojrh, TxCinnamonGirl, Searching4You and I came out here today as this was one of our main goals. 101 year old benchmark.

One of our main targets and reasons to come to the area today was to find the 100 year old benchmark. Enjoyed this easy find.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
