The disk is on the upper right hand corner in the pained area

I had to pull over to yield to a fire truck and this was there.

Parked on the “other side” of the road near the end of the runway for a quick photo.

Easily spotted from the street.

I was nearby on business today so I looked up a couple of benchmarks nearby and this looked like the easiest. Did a u-turn in the San Diego police chopper parking lot and quickly stopped the car for a glance at it. This is my southernmost BM find to date :-)

Found per the NAD 83 coordinates and the datasheet.

Taken with a cell phone camera near local sunset, but information on disk is legible.

Found benchmark location for my surveying class at SDSU. Easy find, especially with GPS.

Yep.

Still here!

Mark is at the upper righthand corner of this concrete pad.

I think the Feds aren't so worried anymore about people stopping here. Pretty quiet at 800am.

Past the end of the runway on curb of street.

Was riding by this one today and stopped by without the GPS coords plugged in. Was pretty easy to spot with the bright paint! Saw it from the other side of the road.

Just seeing if my GPS is accurate. Average of 4 readings shows only off by 12 feet.

Just wanted to see what this was all about. I thought it was cool but the restof the gang said, "where are the toys, dad??? The Gilbreth Gang, at it again.

My GPS was about 20 feet off but no biggie. The neon paint they used to mark it SDGPS on the curb was a dead give away. No fun under cover guys, maybe I didnt wait around long enough to find out :) Will attach pics soon.

Well now there it is. I found this one fairly easily, since nscaler told me where it was and I drive by it everyday on the way to and from work.

While investigating this marker, a car pulled up behind me and honked. The occupant showed some I.D. and said he was a federal agent (no uniform). He wanted to know why I was next to the end of the runway. Apparently he was worried about me planting a bomb! So I told him I was checking out the geodetic marker and showed him my digital camera and GPS for documenting the marker. He said they used GPS also. Coord's given as:
N 32 49.106 W 117 8.87 (NAD 83) My GPS showed:
N 32 49.107 W 117 8.87 which is very close to the mark!

Control Text

  • This mark is at Montgomery Field Airport (MYF)
  • ITRF positions are available for this station. The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in April 2000. This is a SPECIAL STATUS position. See SPECIAL STATUS under the DATUM ITEM on the data sheet items page. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
