Found this benchmark while visiting with KinderKen. I couldn't get here for the midnight event a few days ago so we made a point of stopping today.

NurseB33 and I, both from Calgary, Alberta missed the midnight event that was here during GeoWoodstock so today, after attending the Farewell Event, we wandered over to admire the Dome and to see the historic mile high benchmark plus some others.

Was attending a fireworks show in the park and sitting on the capitol grounds. Looked for this before the show started.

Found while geocaching in the area.

found while looking around the capital.

#2 found today.

I’m on a business trip in Denver, Colorado – so I take the chance to catch some caches and benchmarks in the evening. Found it after little confusion only by using the spoiler picture. My GPS shows me an offset of 100m. I don’t know why. This happened to me during all 4 benchmarks I’ve found today.
Nice place! Best regards
willimax from Germany
P.S. Pictures can be delivered later...

Talked with some veterans sitting on a bench near the benchmark. A warm afternoon.

N 39° 44.390 W 104° 59.028

Found it using the USGS description. I checked the info against my Vista;
Benchmark ev. 5275 Vista GPS ev. 5288/5291
After calibrating the unit, the "show GPS elevation" value did not change, however, the displayed elevation value did reflect the correction.
The cords adjusted from W 104° 59.026 to W 104° 59.030 after the unit sat motionless next to the mark for three minutes. N stayed the same.

Found this one while in town for a wedding. Very nice capitol building. I've been here before, but that was before i knew about benchmarks!

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1939 AT DENVER. AT DENVER, DENVER COUNTY, AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION OF EAST COLFAX AVENUE AND GRANT STREET, AT THE NORTHEAST ENTRANCE TO THE STATE CAPITOL GROUNDS, AT THE STONE STEPS LEADING TO THE GROUNDS, IN THE TOP OF THE NORTH END OF THE TOP STEP, AND LEVEL WITH THE GRANT STREET SIDEWALK. NOTE-- THIS MARK WAS PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AND DESIGNATED AS 5275 (USGS) = V 1.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code E indicates a distribution rate of 4.1 thru 8.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
