Found quite easily even though it is sunk down a few inches. Happy New Year.

Took advantage of a nice winter afternoon to log a couple of benchmarks near one of my caches.
It hasn't moved. The mark is still imbedded in the stream bank, just as described in prior logs.

This is in New Providence, Union County, not in Morris County! Found easily by coordinates, description and the designation painted on the sidewalk.

This benchmark is buried in the slope of the embankment, I had the right quadrants, and I took a picture of my yellow GPS in the middle of the sidewalk, two feet away from the benchmark, I didn't want my GPS to slide down the embankment but I took a picture of where it is,

Note: The details and description contain some errors. This station is located within Union County, New Jersey NOT Morris County. The ingress driveway to the park is a short distance South East of the Methodist Church NOT North East. The station is below grade approximately 5 inches (13 cm) on an embankment. Some instability arises from the station being covered over by soil or composted leaves, etc. The embankment seems secure from flood erosion for the time being.

DESCRIBED BY NEW JERSEY GEODETIC SURVEY 1993 THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE BOROUGH OF NEW PROVIDENCE, ON THE GROUNDS OF A BOROUGH PARK, SET ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE PARKING LOT, BETWEEN THE STONE CURB AND THE TOP OF BANK OF A CHANNELIZED STREAM. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 78 AND HILLCREST ROAD, COUNTY ROAD 531, AT INTERCHANGE 40, GO NORTH ON HILLCREST ROAD FOR 1.05 MI (1.69 KM) TO THE CROSSROADS INTERSECTION WITH COUNTY ROAD 622. BEAR TO THE LEFT AND CONTINUE NORTH ON HILLCREST ROAD FOR 0.75 MI (1.21 KM) TO THE CROSSROADS INTERSECTION WITH VALLEY ROAD, COUNTY ROAD 512, TO THE EAST AND WEST AND MOUNTAIN AVENUE, COUNTY ROAD 638 TO THE NORTH. TURN RIGHT AND GO EAST ON VALLEY ROAD, COUNTY ROAD 512 FOR 3.5 MI (5.63 KM) , CROSSING THE UNION COUNTY LINE, VALLEY ROAD IS CALLED SPRINGFIELD AVENUE IN UNION COUNTY, TO THE TEE JUNCTION WITH RIDGEVIEW AVENUE ON THE LEFT AND THE INGRESS DRIVEWAY TO THE PARK ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO 0.1 MI (0.16 KM) SOUTH TO THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT. TURN LEFT AND GO 0.05 MI (0.08 KM) TO THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. THE INGRESS DRIVEWAY TO THE PARK IS ABOUT 0.05 MI (0.08 KM) NORTHEAST OF THE NEW PROVIDENCE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. THE STATION IS 3.1 M (10.17 FT) SOUTH SOUTHEAST FROM THE STONE CURB, 2.2 M (7.22 FT) NORTH NORTHWEST FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE CONCRETE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER THE CHANNELIZED STREAM, 51.2 M (167.98 FT) EAST NORTHEAST FROM THE NORTH EDGE OF THE STREAM, 26.4 M (86.61 FT) SOUTHWEST FROM THE CENTER OF A UTILITY MANHOLE NEAR THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE PARKING LOT AND 25.8 M (84.65 FT) SOUTHWEST FROM AN INLET SET FLUSH IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE PARKING LOT.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1999.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
