DESCRIBED BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1948 (BMK) THE STATION IS LOCATED 10-1/2 MILES WEST AND 8-1/2 MILES NORTH OF STERLING, IN THE SE 1/4 OF SECTION 12 T9N, R54W AND ON STATE OWNED LAND. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF 4TH STREET AND MAIN STREET IN STERLING, GO WEST ON STATE HIGHWAY 14 FOR 7.5 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON MACADAM ROAD FOR 5.3 MILES TO A T-INTERSECTION. TURN LEFT AND GO WEST FOR 1.6 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH FOR 3.0 MILES TO A CROSSROAD. TURN LEFT AND GO WEST FOR 1.0 MILE TO A CROSSROAD AND GATE IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER. PASS THROUGH GATE AND GO WEST-NORTHWEST FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE HILL AND THE STATION. THE STATION MARK IS A U.S. GEOLOGICAL STATION MARK DISK, STAMPED GRAYLIN VABM 4387 1948, SET IN THE TOP OF A 8-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 5-INCHES. IT IS 5.3 FEET WEST-NORTHWEST OF THE WITNESS POST. R.M. 1 IS A U.S. GEOLOGICAL REFERENCE MARK DISK, STAMPED GRAYLIN NO 2 1948, SET IN THE TOP OF A 8-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 3-INCHES. IT IS 130 FEET WEST OF THE WITNESS POST. R.M. 2 IS A U.S. GEOLOGICAL REFERENCE MARK DISK, STAMPED GRAYLIN NO 2 1948, SET IN THE TOP OF A 8-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 5-INCHES. IT IS 98.7 FEET NORTH OF THE WITNESS POST. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED, GRAYLIN USGS 1963, CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUT CROPPING BED ROCK THAT PROJECTS 10-INCHES. IT IS 46 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF A NORTH-SOUTH SECTION LINE ROAD, 19 FEET WEST OF A WIRE FENCE AND 8.6 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE WITNESS POST. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH FROM THE STATION GO EAST SOUTHEAST FOR 0.2 MILE TO A GATE. TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTH ON A SECTION LINE ROAD FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT. DIST.   • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in July 1996.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
