LY2639 is apparently destroyed. We located the site and found the witness sign (see photo) lying on the ground with its base end projecting over an overgrown hole about two feet in diameter and 2 feet deep. Vegetation in the hole appeared to be of the same age as the surrounding vegetation. The averaged coordinates on our Garmin eMap and Garmin GPS12XL receivers both read within 11 feet of the published coordinates for the marker so we feel confident that this is the original hole for the bench mark. We probed the soil within a 12 foot radius with metal rods for about 30 minutes but failed to make contact with any marker. . . . .patrick & shirley
