Mark found in good condition. From the photos, it looks like the wooden post behind the witness post has fallen over. Also recovered were reference marks 2 and 3 - I couldn't find mark 1 after a brief search, and did not look for the azimuth mark.

This one was so much easier than I thought it would be because we spotted the witness post from the car. I had also looked at the picture of it on the site so I knew where it was in relation to the post. It was covered with overgrown grass and would have been much tougher without the post pic. I found about 15-20 of these in high school when our government teacher offered extra credit for it. We didn't have GPS units back then and it involved a lot of measuring from the different landmarks, figuring out old clues based on items that may not even exist anymore and even digging sometimes. The GPS made it much too quick and easy. I think next time I will try to do it the "old fashioned" way.

It was cool; learning about the history of benchmarks today! This was my first Benchmark with Magickal, and ToledoTom

Saw the witness post from the highway, so this was pretty easy to find. Amazing that even the wire fence mentioned in the station recovery notes from 1970 is still there.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1999.
  • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
