Recovered in relatively good condition. It's now covered in the black paint of a mural under the overpass, but the inscription is still legible. The setting photo shows the disk in the lower left of the photo.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 AT NEW YORK. AT NEW YORK, IN BOROUGH OF QUEENS, ABOUT 80 YARDS WEST OF INTERSECTION OF CENTREVILLE STREET AND PECONIC STREET, AT THE OVERPASS OF LONG ISLAND RAILROAD (ROCKAWAY BEACH DIVISION) OVER LINDEN BOULEVARD, SET VERTICALLY IN THE NORTH FACE OF SOUTH CONCRETE ABUTMENT OF OVERPASS, 2 FEET WEST OF NORTHEAST CORNER OF SOUTH ABUTMENT, 14 1/2 FEET SOUTH OF SOUTH CURB OF LINDEN BOULEVARD AND 2 1/2 FEET ABOVE LEVEL OF SIDE WALK.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
