Spent a mild winter's day benchmark hunting in Brooklyn, ending up with 26 marks out of 29 attempts.

Found in good condition as described. The layers of paint are a bit worn, permitting easy visibility of the disk's details.

The Shore Parkway which crosses over Ocean Avenue at this point is now the Belt Parkway.

AT NEW YORK, IN BOROUGH OF BROOKLYN, AT OVERPASS OF SHORE PARKWAY OVER OCEAN AVENUE, SET VERTICALLY IN THE SOUTH FACE OF THE SOUTH ONE OF FOUR GRANITE COLUMNS SUPPORTING OVERPASS, 5.2 FEET EAST OF EAST CURB OF OCEAN AVENUE AND 4 FEET ABOVE EAST SIDE WALK OF OCEAN AVENUE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
