Found in good condition and as described. PS 188 is a great location because there are three benchmarks on the school (this disk, the flagpole on the roof and the chimney).

Found as describes in good condition.

The mark was behind a fence (just to the left of the main entrance) so I was about 6 feet away and the closeup is not so close.

This school also has two intersection stations - the flagpole on the top front center of the roof, and the chimney around the back.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 AT NEW YORK. AT NEW YORK, IN BOROUGH OF BROOKLYN, AT THE JUNCTION OF NEPTUNE AVENUE AND WEST 33RD STREET, AT CONEY ISLAND, SET VERTICALLY IN THE NORTH FACE OF PUBLIC SCHOOL NO. 188, 1.3 FEET EAST OF EAST EDGE OF FIRST WINDOW EAST OF MAIN NORTH ENTRANCE AND ABOUT 3 FEET ABOVE SIDE WALK.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
