Geocache Description:

Until ownership is officially transferred, Angela Cottingham will be the caretaker of this cache. Email Angela Cottingham on all matters involving this cache. We would like to thank Cortney of Eden for setting this cache up and Angela Cottingham for helping to maintain it. This is much too good a cache to just let it be archived. Many thanks to Angela for stepping up to maintain this fine cache.

It's time for the 3rd Annual Kansas City Geocaching Picnic, to be held on July 12, 2003 starting at 5:00 pm. Since it's a little bit later in the summer, we decided to have an evening picnic to avoid the heat of the day. We have a shelter reserved at a dog-friendly location with a playground, port-o-potty, and some good shade trees. Help us to continue to make these events better and better by coming and meeting some of your fellow geocachers. Whether you've found 1000 caches or are still waiting to find your first, feel free to come on by, eat some tasty food, and talk shop for a while!

Please make a note entry with your intent to attend, how many people you're bringing, and what you're going to bring so that we have an idea of what to expect. This will be a potluck event. What should you bring? We're breaking it up by number of caches found so that we get a variety of items. If you've found:

  • 0-100: bring a side dish/salad
  • 101-200: bring a dessert
  • 201+: bring a main dish
Come prepared with a chair to sit in as well as a dish to share. We'll provide the drinks.

We'll also be placing a cache in honor of the event, so bring something to place in it.

I recommend adding this cache to your watch list so that you receive notifications when this page is updated, and check back before the event for any details that may have changed. If you decide to change what you're bringing (or finally figure it out), let me know via e-mail.

We look forward to seeing everyone! :o)

Well, it looks like the picnic was a smashing success, with approximately 55 people showing up (minus a folks who signed up, and plus a few who didn't, it seemed to even out). Lots of food was consumed, conversation had, and a new cache nicely filled with loot so that those who didn't attend can come find the cache. Thanks to everyone who came, and we hope you had as much fun putting faces to the names, and getting to talk shop with old buddies. Maybe a bit of the spirit of the fun we had will linger on for those who come after....

If you came to the picnic, don't forget to log this as a find.

The cache coordinates have now been changed to reflect those of the memorial cache. The container is a 50-cal ammo can, and contents include a logbook, pen, and a camera (take your picture and leave it in the cache), and a bunch of loot that I can't account for. ;o) When the camera is full, I'll get it developed and post the pictures here. If you notice the camera's almost, out, please let me know in your log.
