Geocache Description:

West Midlands 2022

Fauld Explorer Trail

This telecom mast is near to the Fauld Crater, debris from which reached here and in fact the village beyond: The local pub, the Cock Inn, lost half its roof. Almost every building suffered damage from the flood or flying debris including the school and village hall.

Local author Valerie Hardy quotes one farm worker describing the debris hurled into the air as being “as big as railway engines"! The population was left without vital services for weeks, with the locals dependent on the Women’s Voluntary Service to provide for their essential needs.

To uncover more information on the Fauld Explosion, you can read the book “Voices from the Explosion”, by Valerie Hardy, published in 2019.

This concluded the Faulds Explorer trail.  If you are heading west you can explore the village and find a few multi-caches, and there's another trail to the west: The Long March, an 8km (5 mile) downhill stroll to Marchington, from GC9TF0B.

The 402 bus runs along Coton Lane/Fauld Lane to the north, and stops near to The Long March #8
