Geocache Description:

You are looking for a clear plastic ammo can with a black lid. There is room for geoswag, trackables... and of course in this area, GOLD!

Cache is located just outside Custer State Park. There is no fee to be on this section of the road. While near this cache, take time to soak in all of the SD history around you. Cache is near a monument that recognizes Anna Tallent - the first white woman to enter the Black Hills of SD. Annie T. was the only woman in the "Gordon Party" that came to the hills in December of 1874 in search of the gold that had been reported to be found in the sands of French Creek. They entered the Black Hills illegally, for this area had been given to the Native Americans. Not long after arriving and setting up a stockade at this location the Gordon Party was arrested and removed from the Black Hills; but, the rush was on and soon thousands of people came in search of gold. Custer quickly boomed to a city of 10,000 people. Annie T. later moved back to the Black Hills and taught school. She eventually became superintendent of schools for Pennington County. She wrote a book about her experiences entitled, "The Last Hunting Ground of the Dacotahs". It is said that the Gordon Party only found $40 worth of gold. I travel to this area regularly for work and will be providing maintenance. As always... have fun, be safe, and cache at your own risk. CONGRATULATIONS to zacknmom for the FTF!!
